Five Things You Need to Know about Writing Articles and know the difference between content writing vs copywriting
It is a great feeling to start writing for your readers, but what should you know about writing articles? Yes, it’s a bit different from the traditional article format, and yes, you need to learn how to write good quality content in order to be successful and know the difference between content writing vs copywriting
I always feel like no one knows what they are talking about. Most of us have gotten through college, where we were taught what to expect in every day life. But when you’re writing an article, you are giving more value to the reader. For example, if I do not like something that happened to me, I don’t want to tell the story. Instead, I want to give my opinion on the topic. What you’ll read are the things you think about the situation. There’s also possibility that you might have given more details than what they would’ve needed. That makes your writing even more valuable.
So let me share 5 tips on how to develop good writing skills:
1) Write what you want (not what others want)
I understand this advice from many people, but writing is much more than just writing. Sure, good ideas will get you to a million words in just three days. Writers love working with words. They think about new ways to present their messages. This tip is important when you think that other writers can make better choices but you can’t control them because it would make your writing mediocre. Think about the audience. In most cases, if you already have a vast experience, you will have a good understanding of who read your stuff. If you don’t, then think about yourself as a writer and try to see the world from their perspective. The way people can get frustrated with your writing, could be because you miss some point that was discussed in our article, or you are trying to do the best that you can. Whatever your reason may be, you should consider it from the writer’s perspective, not yours. Make sure you always aim to write in a simple language. Simple is another word, simple is usually what you want to achieve. Once you get your head around how to use the right words, write whatever comes into your mind.
2) Focus on the main idea
The article’s title is usually its first sentence in Google search results, so it is useful to include keywords to make it easier for the reader to find the information they need quickly. But remember that “main idea” doesn’t mean only one idea. A better approach is to describe the key message you want to convey. Let’s say you have this story about why people hate dogs. When you look at all the articles that go against this idea, think of the potential benefits you can gain from it. How often do people visit dog shelters and adopt? How often do people buy fur products? What else do you think about, besides those two facts you mentioned in the title? Write down everything you can think about the situation. Don’t limit yourself to only one thing. Remember that no matter what you write, you will want the readers to understand your thinking and feelings. So write as many parts as you can think of. Try to focus on the main idea.
3) Stick to the basics
When you write an article, it means that you are limiting yourself. On top of having a lot of things to talk about and the possible questions the reader has, there are a ton of little details that get lost in the process. Those small nuances might be confusing at times, especially if you don’t put much effort into editing or proofreading the work. Your articles can look like trash, but they are still going out. The same goes for essays, research papers, reports, etc. Keep the basic points simple and stay short and clear.
4) Do not add unnecessary information to the text
If you think about it before you start writing, you will usually end up with something better. And by adding too much info to the text, you can waste people’s time. Avoid the extra information and the additional comments to avoid unnecessary comments and other mistakes. Some experts suggest including a list of keywords that will return lots of results for similar searches. It is just a quick solution to save time and make your article appear faster.
5) Show your creativity
Your writing skills will never be enough if you don’t show some talent. People want to know what you’re thinking. As soon as they see a unique idea, they want to discover more about it. People love to feel like you are really creative. Be more original than you already are. Have fun and think outside the box. These are a few key things you should keep in mind while writing an article. Being able to write good quality content is hard, but it’s worth it.
